  • Ghana is in the GMT time zone (Greenwich Mean Time) Ghana. Ghana is 5 hours ahead of the EST time zone. Ghana is 8 hours ahead of the PST time zone.

  • The Ghanaian Cedi currency sign: GHC; currency code: GHS is the unit of currency of Ghana.

To access cash you can withdraw from the ATM in Ghana and receive Cedi’s. Please note there may be a surcharge from your bank and the local bank.

If you prefer to use your credit card please notify your bank that you will be traveling and provide them with your destination. You can exchange your currency to cedi at the hotel ATM and or the Forex Bureau at any mall.

  • All power sockets in Ghana provide a standard voltage of 230V with a standard frequency of 50Hz. You can use all your equipment in Ghana if the outlet voltage in your own country is between 220V-240V like in Europe or is 110/120V in North America. If your device is 240V or dual voltage and your plug can fit in a Ghanaian Power Outlet then it can work in Ghana otherwise you will need a suitable adapter for your electronic devices.

  • Your Hotel has Wi-Fi available but please understand the reliability and speed has its challenges.

To access voice and data plans while in Ghana please contact your phone provider to inquire about international plans/coverage.

We suggest you download WhatsApp. A messaging app that uses the internet to send messages, images, audio or video.

  • Uber is available in Ghana and locals prefer BOLT as a similar and more convenient option to Uber.

Accra has thousands of taxis, and sadly, not all of the taxi drivers are licensed to drive. Use your good judgment when hailing a taxi. Does the car appear to be in good condition and clean inside and out? Is the driver neatly dressed? Does the driver speak English? Negotiate the price before you get in. There is no place within Accra that is very far from any other place in Accra. The issue is traffic. Accra’s infrastructure cannot support the number of cars, so traffic jams are not uncommon at any time of the day or night. Still, the cost of a taxi is very reasonable. Bear in mind that if a taxi driver believes you are a tourist, he’ll automatically assume you are rich. Whatever price he quotes, offer half of that and then find a happy medium. If you’re not happy with the price, wait for the next guy, remember, there are lots around.

  • Don't drink water from the tap ever. You can purchase bottled water from almost any shop. A bottle of water is about .50 to .60 cents a liter. You want the water bottles with a sticker on the top of the cap which will have a code. Don’t buy water called “ice water” which is just chilled tap water in a tied plastic bag; Suggested bottled water would be Bel Aqua, Voltic, Verna Natural Mineral Water and Aqua-In.

  • Ghanaian workers appreciate your tips very much. The tips supplement their salary. If the service is good, and your needs are attended to promptly and efficiently, a tip or gratuity of 10% is exceptionally adequate.

There is no need to tip by Western standards, no one here expects it, and it won't improve your service (though the next time you frequent the same venue, you'll likely see a free-for-all among the waiters vying for your table!).

If you really want attentive service, then consider "dashing" your wait person or hotel employee up-front. With a few kind words on your part, such as, "Hope you'll take good care of us " you'll be more likely to get better and more consistent service.
